Our goal at HSSV is to match our pets with the absolute best fit for them. To that end, we have developed a process to our adoption procedures. Following this process will greatly increase your chances for success! 1.) Browse Available Animals
Click Blue Tool Bar at the top of our webpage and select “Shelter Animals” and then the type of animal you are interested in: cats, dogs, or other animals such as rabbits, hamsters, etc.
2.) Complete an Application
Once you’ve found a pet you’re interested in, click the pet’s photo which will take you to their profile. If you want to proceed after reading their profile, click the orange “I am interested” button and complete the Petango Application. NOTE: We do not have the manpower to address incomplete applications. Therefore, only fully completed apps will be processed. Double check that you’ve completed everything on the app before submitting. If you’re not sure about a question on the app, call us at 360-757-0445 or email us at shelter@skagithumane.org for answers prior to submission.
3.) After Submission
Call 360-757-0445 or email shelter@skagithumane.org to confirm submission of application. Completed applications are reviewed and followed with a phone call or email confirmation with in 72 hours. If you don’t hear back, please follow up. Once applications have been approved then we call or email to set up an appointment. Appointments are 30 minutes long and you must arrive on time. Late arrivals risk being rescheduled.
4.) Appointment is Scheduled
We will reach out to schedule an appointment once we’ve reviewed your application. NOTE: while we do accept walk-ins, appointments will always take priority. If you decide to drop-in without an appointment we can’t guarantee that we will have staff available to help you. All visits must be pre-arranged by appointment. You may also contact us to verify receipt of your application and to schedule an appointment. You may do this by calling us at 360-757-0445 or email shelter@skagithumane.org.
5.) Help Us Move Things Along
There are a few more things you can do to help us move your application along more efficiently:
- Email us your main contact info and include the name of the animal you submitted an application for online.
- Also include what you would consider adopting beyond the animal you submitted the app for, such as breed, age, sex, coat style, behavioral considerations, etc.
- Include a photo of the face of your home with address number and a photo of your yard as well if you are interested in adopting a dog.
- Include information about your family dynamics such as if you have other pets, how many and what kind, if you have children and what are their ages and level of experience with pets, etc.
This information is essential in helping us to begin the process for adoption and will make everything move a lot more efficiently for us all.
