How to apply for other volunteer opportunities at HSSV:

Age:

Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present during volunteer shifts unless volunteering through a school community service program. All minor volunteers must have a signed liability waiver on file. 

Volunteers who are 16 or 17 years old are eligible for the following roles:

  • Cat socialization/enrichment
  • Laundry
  • Kennel Cleaning
  • Thrift Shop

Volunteers under 16, except in volunteer groups, are only eligible for the reading to the animals role. No need to apply, instead all us at (360) 757-0445 or email volunteer@skagithumane.org.

General Requirements:

  • All volunteers must complete our volunteer application and orientation process before beginning service
  • Volunteers must have a genuine love for animals and a commitment to their care and welfare
  • Must be able to follow all safety guidelines and shelter protocols
  • Be willing work as part of a team and take direction from staff
  • Reliable attendance and clear communication about availability is a must
  • Wear appropriate clothing including closed toe shoes, long pants, and weather appropriate layers (be able to work indoors and outdoors)

Volunteer Groups:

We have preplanned projects available for groups. Please contact Veronica Calderon at volunteer@skagithumane.org or call (360) 757-0445 to set up a Group Volunteer Experience for ages 13 and older.

Community Service:

Court ordered community service is available for some charges. Instead of filling out a volunteer application, please call the shelter at (360) 757-0445 or the thrift shop at (360) 424-5991 to learn more.

Available Roles:

  • Dog walking and enrichment
  • Cat socialization
  • Laundry and dishes
  • Event assistance and community outreach
  • Office help and administrative support
  • Reading to the animals
  • Kennel cleaning
  • Thrift Shop

After you apply you will be sent an invitation to attend one of our orientation sessions. Sessions are conducted on the second Saturday of every month at the shelter at 18841 Kelleher Road, in Burligton.
